The small city of Dahab lies 80 kilometres north of Sharm el Sheikh and it is famous for its relaxed and calm atmosphere.
Dahab means Gold in Arabic and according to the tradition, Bedouins gave Dahab this name because of the golden sand of its bay. In contrast to Sharm el Sheikh where scuba diving is mainly by boat, the dive sites of Dahab are mostly accessible by land.
Dahab has a suitable place for everyone. There are many camps and budget hotels, but also top end hotels with swimming pool and private beach are available.
The city has a big choice of restaurants with Egyptian and international food. We would love to give you some recommendations!
Dahab is one of the most relaxed places in the world and so much different then the mass tourism places like Sharm and Hurghada. It’s still small, the people are friendly and it is a perfect place to chill in one of the nice restaurants along the sea. At the northern end of Dahab you find a typical Bedouin village named Assalah. This used to be the original village that gave birth to the centre we know today.
